Potato Please is not marketed as a speedgame, but it records shift time and publishes global leaderboards. That is enough to make it one. This page is honest about how little is officially documented.

What the clock measures

  • Shift time is recorded per run and compared on global leaderboards: fastest Normal, fastest Hard, and career hand-peeled potatoes.
  • Replaying the ending from a finished save no longer changes your shift time (1.0.2).
  • The leaderboards were reviewed in 1.0.2 and invalid times removed.
  • If your run was removed by mistake, the developer asks for a recording and will review it.

That last point matters: the developer is actively policing the board. A run without a recording is a run that can disappear.

A community speedrun of 1:42:20 is referenced in video metadata, but it is a player claim, not a verified category record. We do not publish it as a world record.

Routing principles that survive patches

  1. The pile is finite. Every route is a race to empty one pile. Anything that does not remove potatoes is off-route.
  2. Walking is the tax. Carry capacity and station layout beat knife tiers in the first ten minutes, because the first ten minutes are mostly walking.
  3. Buy the bottleneck. A route that buys a machine before its feeder loses to a route that buys the feeder first, even if the machine is “better”.
  4. Machines need a finishing pass. A route that ignores spots fails quality checks and loses more time than it saved.
  5. The crane changes the clock. Recounts every 6 minutes, or 2.5 with autopilot. A route that buys the crane early inherits that rhythm; plan around it.

What we do not know

QuestionStatus
The exact quota countHUD screenshots show 60,000; the developer has not published it
Optimal upgrade order under current pricesNot solved; prices are not published
Whether autopilot saves time or only convenienceNot documented; it changes the recount rhythm
Ending branches and their time costTriggers not officially documented

We will update this table as the community documents runs. No invented times or splits appear on this page.

If you are here to finish the game rather than race it, the quota and shifts page is a better use of ten minutes.
